My 13 year old asked for and got one for Xmas. I am laying in bed recovering listening to him figure out how to play it. He also got a rented marimba, so it was a musical holiday for him.
Anyone know how to play theremin?

A theremin and a marimba? Did you give them to him or does somebody hate you?

To me the theremin sounds like the electric equivalent of the saw. I cannot play either.

Lydia Kavina (video above), the world’s premier thereminist, has books and instructional DVDs, as well as teaching master classes... not that that’s probably in the cards.

Some of Clara Rockmore’s pieces are worth interest as well.

My sister wanted (and got) a theremin for Christmas when she was about that age. No I can’t play it (other than badly eeking out popular melodies) but I do know your pain. If it’s any consolation my sister got bored with it after a couple months and it’s probably been in her closet or something being silent ever since.

Probably my favorite song using a singing saw (the saw comes in around the 3 minute mark, but the whole song album is amazing).

Having nothing germane to offer, I give you words of ‘wisdom’ from Dr. D :
My point is, at its best, evil science is like undergoing deep Freudian analysis - with a theremin constantly playing in the background.
and How It’s Made, Marimba:

I assume it’s like a trombone. You kinda just have to know right?
